Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal data Parklands Mosque collects through this website, why, and your rights under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019. Parklands Mosque is the data controller.
What we collect
- Your account: email address, name and phone number.
- People you book for: name, gender and year of birth, so we can put them in the right hall and price band.
- Dietary needs, if you choose to tell us. This can include health information, such as diabetes or allergies. It is optional, and we use it only to tell the caterer.
- Bookings and payments: what you booked, the amount, and the payment reference, M-Pesa receipt number and paying number or last four card digits that Paystack sends us. We never receive card numbers or M-Pesa PINs.
- At the event: when each pass was checked in and its wristband printed, and by which volunteer.
- Your signed-in devices: the type of device and browser, its internet (IP) address, and when it was last used, so you can see where you are signed in and sign devices out.
- Your feedback after an event, if you choose to give it: your ratings and comments.
- Your photo choice: whether you asked us not to feature your family in published photos and videos.
- Questions for the imam: the question, and your name if you choose to give it.
- Cookies: one to keep you signed in, and an anonymous one on “Ask the Imam” to limit spam and remember your votes. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Why we use it
- To take bookings and payments, and to issue and check passes (to carry out your booking).
- To plan catering and seating, and to keep the event safe and orderly (our legitimate interests).
- To send booking confirmations, reminders and event updates. You can choose which messages you get on the My passes & family page.
- To send news about upcoming events and programmes, only if you tick the box to receive it (your consent). You can stop at any time on the My passes & family page.
- To thank you after an event and ask for feedback, so we can improve the next one (our legitimate interests). Giving feedback is optional.
- To keep financial records that the law requires.
- Dietary and health information is used only with your consent, which you give by entering it. You can remove it at any time.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We use these service providers to run the site, and they only process data on our instructions:
- Paystack, for payments.
- Supabase, which hosts our database.
- Netlify, which hosts the website.
- Resend, which sends our emails.
Some of these providers store data outside Kenya. We use them because they protect data to a high standard. Committee members and volunteers see only what their role needs. For example, door volunteers can see names and halls but not payments.
How long we keep it
- Your account and saved family stay until you delete them.
- Booking and payment records are kept for 5 years for accounting and tax purposes. If you delete your account, we remove your name and contact details from them.
- Questions for the imam are kept for 12 months.
- Records of signed-in devices are deleted 90 days after the device is signed out.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. You can correct your family's details and delete your account yourself on the My passes & family page. For anything else, contact us (data contact: parklandsmosquenairobi@gmail.com). If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner at odpc.go.ke.
Photos and video at events
We take photos and short videos at our events and may share them on the mosque's website and social media, to show the community what the programme is like. When you book, you can tick Please don't feature my family. We pass that list to our photographers, and they will not publish photos where your family can be recognised. We take particular care with children: we do not publish children's names, and close-up photos of children are only published with a parent's agreement. If a published photo shows you or your child and you want it removed, contact us and we will take it down.
Children
Details of children are given by their parent or guardian when they book. We use them only for the booking and the event.
